  1. Hey @gus You might not be to late! http://www.groovypost.com/news/microsoft-recommending-contact-support-extend-windows-10-upgrade/
  2. Hi @Don18055 I just found this on groovypost! http://www.groovypost.com/news/microsoft-recommending-contact-support-extend-windows-10-upgrade/
  3. Hi @Don18055 You may get more replies from other forum members latter! Here's a link from groovypost. I'm thinking you may have to contact Microsoft and hope you get someone there that knows what they are doing. I'm not sure how do go about this now that the free offer has expired! http://www.groovypost.com/howto/windows-10-iso-download/ http://www.groovypost.com/howto/10-things-check-before-installing-windows-10/
  4. @Rich-M I don't see how buying Windows 10 will be any different then the using the MCT and then doing a clean install, but good luck. I'm thinking the anniversary update is going to be a big improvement. I guess we will know soon!
  5. Never ran W8.1, but from all that I have heard, I agree that W10 is the best of W7 and W8. I'm thinking that W10 will even get better in the future; and I'm anxiously waiting the anniversary addition next month! Hoping there aren't to many problems for W10 users and hoping the update goes smoothy. Fingers crossed! I'm not a long time reader of groovypost, but I have become a big fan of groovypost lately and I invite you to join me. Technology News, Tips, Reviews, and How To Galleries PS @ShockerSH I'm now a big fan of groovypost also and this forum as well! 6. Let's hope that MS will extend the dead line @ShockerSH but I have not seen any evidence that's going to happen. Not sure that a human is involved in this upgrade. I hope MS extends the free upgrade, but I wouldn't put any money on it! PS I'm hoping that this forum grows also @ShockerSH
  7. Hi! I'm not one for beating a dead horse into the ground, but here in my reliability monitor are 4 reasons; IMHO, to down load windows up dates. Could I live without them? Probably, but what will the next windows updates be about. The Reliability Monitor is one of the least know trouble shooters in Windows. Get over it PC W10 users. Windows updates are a good thing. Unless and until you can prove to me that windows updates are bad, don't preach to me not to down load windows updates. PS You can check how your PC is performing by typing "Reliability History" in your search bar!
  8. Hi @Profiler Good suggestion about AV. Do not worry about posting that link with crapware. Your PC knowledge is well know in the computer world. We are not perfect, and all we can do is to give it the very best we know how and hope we make a difference! I'm hoping that @Mandy has been able to upgrade to W10. Hoping they will post soon with good results and a successful upgrade! Thanks @Profiler You are appreciated mate!
  9. Hey Cindy! Thanks for joining this thread. I think they are the same links Team work is a good thing! Not a problem Cindy! Just means we are on the same page. Thanks for helping!
  10. HI @Helixal Welcome to the forum. We have several members here that use Microsoft Money, but I'm not one of them. I'm sure someone here can help you with your issue, so hang around for more replies from other forum members latter! You might give this a look and see if there is in help it this forum link! http://windows10forum.com/topic/103-microsoft-money-sunset/
  11. Hi @Mandy Once you have checked out all the things you should do before trying to install windows; I would recommend the Media Creation Tool from MS. If you have not tried the MCT You can find it here! PS Last day for the free upgrade. After today you won't be able to get the free upgrade! https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/
  12. Hi @Profiler The other suggestions in your link are good. I have made the same mistake you did when referring links. No harm done! Thanks for helping! Team work is a good thing!
  13. Hi @allheart55 (Cindy E) Thanks for that. I checked it out and it has bad ratings from WOT. Most of those 3rd party programs like that, are snake oil and it's recommended not to use them. IMHO you don't need them. The other suggestions in the link are good! Thanks for the heads up Cindy!
  14. Hi! Not familar with the smartpcfixer?? The other things look good!
  15. Hi @Mandy! Welcome to the forum! You may get more replies from forum members latter. Here's a good read by groovy post that might help you get W10 installed. If you have more questions, someone will try to help you. It would help if you post your make and model on your next reply! http://www.groovypost.com/howto/10-things-check-before-installing-windows-10/
  16. Wow! This is a record sense I became a member here! Looking good @Steve 57 viewing the forum is not to shabby my friend!
  17. Great post @ralph blake I'm really happy to hear about your success with W10. I also agree with you that W10 is the best OS that MS has engineered. I feel like it will only get better. I'm waiting for the anniversary upgrade next month. Here's how I advise PC users to handle these upgrades. Learn how to use a 3rd party back up program, and always create a image of your operating system before ever making major changes to your PC. That way you can always roll back if your not happy or have problems. PS Once you have the entitled W10, you can do as many clean installs as you want. If you're having major problems you can't fix; you save your data and perform a clean install. W10 has many ways of dealing with problems. I like W10 a lot Welcome to the forum and thank you for your great post!
  18. Hi There! IMHO the windows updates are very important and I never recommend that they be turned off. When seniors here in my retirement village ask me if they should install windows up dates, I tell them yes, and then I tell them what they are, and how updates help them protect their PC. Some seniors tell me their children have told them not to install the updates. That's old school IMHO. If you choose not to install windows up dates, that's your choice. I see no good reason not to install them. MS has decided that W10 Home will not give you the option to turn off the updates. I guess MS thinks they are important. @Profiler is a very experienced PC user and he can get away with not up installing the up dates. He also said he didn't recommend turning updates off. @Steve never said he didn't install w10 updates. @Steve only said he didn't pay much attention to them! The forum has many guests and members that read these posts and IMHO, turning off windows updates is not a good idea. I guess we can agree to disagree on this and I think we have done that!
  19. Hi There! Get more involved and join the sister forum, where this all started. Technology News, Tips, Reviews, and How To Galleries Also subscribe to the news letter. There is lots of information in the news letter. You only thought you knew a lot until you read all the blogs in the news letter. It's free. 20. Here's my thoughts and everyone here has a right to post their thoughts on this forum Recommending that W10 users not install window updates is not very good advise IMHO. There are very good reasons that MS puts these updates out on patch Tuesday. I agree in the past; that there were some problems, and Updates have caused problems for PC users, but my advise is to install the updates. If you have W10 home, you probably don't have a choice anyway.
  21. Hi @gus I'm not here to argue with you! I posted my thoughts about Windows updates. You are entitled to your thoughts. I don't know of any tech giving false hopes that all you need, is to keep your windows updates current to prevent you from getting infected. I have never said that. I don't know which Malware school you are attending, but I have never see one that recommends not installing Windows updates. I'm very curious to which Malware school you are attending. I run windows defended and MBAM in real time and I have windows updates set to install automatic! I fully agree with you that safe surfing is your best defense against malware I also recommend a AV program that is fully updated. IMHO Windows defender will get the job done running W10 and MBAM pro will give you a second level of protection. Not my first rodeo @gus Welcome to the forum!
  22. We all have our thoughts about windows up dates. I will not speak for @Profiler or @Steve but IMHO,windows updates are for very good reasons. I see infected PCs all the time in my village. If you read @Profiler's post more carefully, you will see that that he does not recommend not installing updates. Nor does @Steve. Here's what HTG says about Windows updates! Exactly how many computers were affected by these problems? We don’t have any good data that tells us this, but it’s a minuscule percentage of people. On the other hand, there are millions and millions of computers that are part of botnets, often because they refused to install security updates and ended up infected. Some people have estimated that 500 million computers each year become part of botnets. Far, far fewer computers than that experience problems with updates. Spend any time at all on the Internet and you’ll realize that malware is a much bigger problem than Windows Update breaking computers. One is very rare — and can be fixed with System Restore or a similar recovery feature if it ever happens — while one is much more common and can result in the theft of your important data. http://www.howtogeek.com/202038/why-you-need-to-install-windows-updates-automatically/
  23. Hi ! I never thought about Bots! That's a good sign if there are Bots. Would be nice to see who they are. Most forums show Bots and what they are clicking on. I would like to see them. Thanks for your answers @allheart55 (Cindy E) and @ShockerSH That makes sense! Maybe staff will have a comment!
  24. Yes It is the roll back! Read about it here at groovypost! http://www.groovypost.com/news/revert-from-windows-10-windows-7-windows-8-1-dont-delete-windowsold/ No! But you can delete it if you're sure you don't want to roll back to your old OS, but I don't think it will improve startup times. You might give this a try. It's a trusted freeware by MBAM(Malwarebytes) https://www.malwarebytes.com/startuplite/
  25. Hi @dusabrive I'm curious about the size of the folder you are working with. I just sent a folder that was on my external drive; that was nearly 5GB, to my documents, and it took less then 3 minutes. I don't know why anyone would want a large folder on their desktop! I think you are making some thing that is very easy; very hard IMHO!
