  1. Hi! @gus Yes I did. Thank you for your reply. I used this link and then I copied and pasted the Key that is shown in my post. I could have done some thing wrong, but I don't know what it would be as I was being very careful. After installing the Trial Addition, I tried to upgrade to paid with the key that I copied and pasted. Thanks Gus!
  2. Hey Johnnie! Welcome to the forum! What are the things users need to do after upgrading to W10?? Do you have a list??Why not join us on the forum and post your ideas. Forums - Windows 10 Forum I have one! Create a back up image of your OS, so that you will be ready when the unexpected happens.
  3. Doesn't seem to work for me! What am I doing wrong!??
  4. Hi There! Thought I would start this thread. Give our new members a thread to post and say some thing. I'm holdum333! I went to the dentist today. Got a haircut and helped a senior with their computer. I see a lot of guest registering, but I never see them post, so I don't know who they are or if they ever come back here! I thought this might break the ice and new members could say Hi. I have seem some new members posting on the forum lately. Welcome to the forum. A place to learn new things and a place to pass forward things you have learned!
  5. Hi! You're very welcome. I'm glad it worked for you. Why did you you do a in place- repair-upgrade? Would like to hear more details if you care to share with us! Welcome to the forum!
  6. Hi There! I hear a lot of horror stories about the W10 upgrade. I have upgraded several PCs and only had one major problem. Here's what I would like to know from members here onwindows10forum.com. Were you ready for the upgrade?? There's several things that could have caused you grief. If your PC was not maintained, then you could have experienced some major problems. Here's a excellent blog from groovypost. The reason I'm starting this thread is that I have heard that MS has extended the free upgrade offer. If you have put off the upgrade, then you may still squeak by; but I don't know that for sure and I wouldn't wait any longer. Anyway doing all these things will help you have a better PC experience, and I strongly recommend checking out this groovypost blog. Please comment if you were able to upgrade your PC by doing these things after the fee offer expired. These are good things that you should do to maintain your PC IMHO ( Just bored) http://www.groovypost.com/howto/10-things-check-before-installing-windows-10/ PS Thanks for this blog @adacosta Very nice! i realize that MS doesn't tell you these things but @adacosta does!
  7. Hey @gus I've never used the program you mention; but here's a link to it, and it looks like some thing @dusabrive might be interested in !! Never to late when suggesting solutions. I'm going to give the program a closer look! http://www.freefilesync.org/
  8. That's a great question @Profiler. I don't know if it can prevent PUPs. I'll do a little more research and get back here. Don't know if this will help but I use unchecky and I think it helps a little. Here's what HTG says about unchecky. We sure need some thing to stop these damn PUPs. For a competent computer geek, Unchecky is probably not really necessary. However, if you find yourself skimming through installations and ending up with coupon offers you don’t remember asking for, it may be a good idea to install Unchecky. Even the most careful geeks can be duped into accepting a promotional offer, or maybe you just want to save some mouse clicks and make installations faster. https://unchecky.com/ http://www.howtogeek.com/179758/how-to-avoid-junkware-offers-with-unchecky/ I just might make a good hand on this help forum one of these days. Sorry for tooting my own horn @Rich-M Not my first rodeo!! Speedy recovery Rich! I also like to have a little fun some times. I like learning new things and passing forward things I have learned from others. It seems to me like the forum is growing and that is a good thing.@Steve
  9. You are very kind my fiend! Thank you for your support @Profiler I don't recommend many 3rd party software programs, but I think this is a keeper! This is for the casual PC user, maybe not for you old dogs that have been around the block a couple of times. There are so many fake programs with PUP's these days and they pop up saying updates are available and then they install malware on you!. Well just use this Program to see if there are updates and never click on those pop ups; especially when surfing the web! The web is becoming a cesspool and I'm afraid it will only get worse. Thanks for your kind reply my friend!
  10. Hey @Profiler This software has quite a list that it checks. I'm not sure you can check all these software programs for updates manually. A lot of programs will notify you when a update is available. I just use this software as a reference. I don't mess with MBAM Pro! I agree "Each to their own" I personally find it quite helpful. I suppose it would depend on how many programs you have installed. I don't have that many. https://patchmypc.net/supported-products-free-updater
  11. Yes they are two different websites, but this one is more friendly and more personal. Join us here and you will get treated special. Isn't that right @Steve !!
  12. Hi! @hex40 Thank you for your update. Keep us informed. I see you had W7 Pro and upgraded to w10 Pro. That's different then mine. I was running W7 Home and upgraded to W10 Home. I have no choice but to except the updates. Maybe other forum members will reply latter. I really prefer creating a back up image like you stated you have done and not rely on restore points . I use a 3rd party image program called Macrium Reflect. It has never let me down and I have been using it for several years. Welcome to the forum. Thank you for this helpful thread.
  13. OK! Thanks for that! I think I'll wait for the update and then create a new MCT Tool. What are your thoughts on that? Do I need to create a new flash after the anniversary update is installed? Thanks for your quick response @adacosta
  14. Here's a screen shot of the old MCT. They look different to me?? What are your thoughts?? Could this new MCT Tool possible have the Anniversary update on it??
  15. Here's a update. I had the MCT on a flash, but I created a new MCT flash and it looks different from the old. Wondering if it has the anniversary update on it. Here's a screen shot of the new MCT flash! I should have used a new Flash, but I used the one that already had the MCT tool. Anyone have any comments??
  16. Hey! @allheart55 (Cindy E) I saw that and wondering about the Download Tool also. I'm really interested in the Update Now in my screen shot. I'm running W10 now. Does the Update Now have the new anniversary Update. I have a MCT flash. Is this a new tool with the Anniversary on it. If it is , then I need to create the new tool! I've heard that you may get the Anniversary Update and skip the first upgrade. Don't know if that's true and that's why I have all these questions. Hoping @adacosta might have some answers! Thanks for your reply Cindy!
  17. Hi @adacosta I went looking for the media creation tool and got this. Can you tell me what's going on with this?? This has changed! https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/
  18. Hi @hex40 I did a little more research and found that is is a problem for a lot of users! Going to do more research and see if I can find a answer! Here's what I came up with! I don't know if this is some thing new with W10 and updates, but maybe updates are being created differently with W10! Let me know what you think! http://www.tenforums.com/performance-maintenance/19926-no-automatic-restore-points-created.html Here's insert taken from the above link! From my understanding Windows 10 will automatically create a System Restore point if there is none earlier than seven days. So if five days past from a point you manually created, and a system update comes in, there will not be an auto created point since it's not longer than seven days. I thought mine wasn't working either when system updates came in as I would manually create one everyday, but I stopped that, and let a week go by, and now the last two updates that came in an auto point was created.
  19. Hi! @hex40 Here's all I know about W10 and restore points! I don't think that restore points are created every time you get window updates. I have noticed that I don't get as many automatic updates as I did with W7. You may get more replies from other forum members latter. Here's a good read by our own @Brian Attached screen shot of my restore points. http://www.groovypost.com/howto/windows-10-enable-create-system-restore/
  20. Hi! I use the program, but I'm a little picky what I let the program update. I don't let it mess with my MBAM Pro. but the other updates are fine. I think it's a good safe program to help you keep your software updated. Here's insert from the program and good reason to keep your software up dated. Thanks @Rich-M Hackers and virus writers love outdated software. It might contain a security vulnerability or “hole” that can provide them with access to your computer. Outdated software can also be buggy, or have performance issues, which is usually fixed with a newer version of the software. These are two of the main reasons why it is important to keep the software on your computer updated (or “patched”).
  21. Hi! Sorry groovypost. Sorry @adacosta but you do not have a great blog on a in place- repair-upgrade! Here's a great tutorial on this. PS I agree that the repair upgrade should restore the default Admin account! http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html
  22. Hey! @Profiler Thanks for your post. Knowing you, I'm sure you created a back image before installing the anniversary update. Are you going to stay with the Anniversary update or roll back. Can you tell us a little more about less options to set! What do you think MS is up to with this anniversary update??
