Taskbar Has a Weird Problem with Size

Recommended Posts

All of a sudden my taskbar is super small. I.e. From side to side it shrunk and it now has scrolling arrows. The area to the right of the time and date is about 2" long now too.

I'm wondering in it's a problem with the latest "fast build" update?

I have a lot of trouble accessing the app icons on the taskbar as they are to cramped.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem is and how to fix it?

I've attached a .jpg of the taskbar to show what I mean.

Thanks all for any help.56db96b741fa9_TaskbarScreenShot.jpg.308956db96cb39322_TaskbarShot.jpg.411bfc31c3

If you right-click on the Taskbar, do you have any toolbars enabled? Wow, never seen anything like that. Is your start button also gone?

Hi Steve. Nope, no toolbars are enabled. I have the start button. It's very strange. I get a left and right arrow that scrolls the icons back and forth but it's very hard to see them or to select them.

I read that if you have "all" icons to show it does something but that isn't the issue either as I only have some of them selected to show. I tried it with all too but that didn't really make a difference.

I'm stumped.

Can you click and drag the toolbar to make it bigger near the arrows?

also, try to move the toolbar to the side of the screen. Perhaps this will reset it?

Lastly, try to lock and unlock it. Again, trying to reset it.

Very odd...

I have the exact same issue with the Redstone Build 10279.

Have tried several things, not sure what up. Perhaps a bug...it's preview (beta) after all. I've submitted it with the Windows Feedback app. Hopefully, we'll see a solution once Redstone continues to develop.

ShockerSH, Can't drag it at all. The other strange thing is that the area to the right of the clock is about 2" long. That shouldn't even be there.

Brian, I tried locking/unlocking to no avail. When I dragged it to the side of the screen it still had the arrows, but the second time I did that they disappeared and all the icons we visable.

I guess it is an issue with the latest builds of Windows. I have 14279 and am on the fast build ring. I will also report it to MS as a bug in the latest versions.

Thanks all for your help. I'll let this rest now and contact MS.

Interesting, so moving it around must have reset it? Good find @laaubin & @ShockerSH. At least.... I hope that's what I'm reading from this. ;)

Hi Brian, No it didn't cure the problem when it's at the bottom of the screen. Still the same there. It looked better when on the side but that didn't cure it.

I'm seeing about 400 + people on the MS site that are reporting taskbar or notification area problems so MS is now aware of it..

Thanks

Hello! I recently installed the newest Windows 10 update but whenever I login onto my laptop, it goes through the process and then goes to a black screen with a cursor that I can move on it. I've tried restarting the laptop several times, each time not working at all. I don't want to resort to a system restore of any kind. I heard about disabling App Readiness but I'm concerned that if I do so, it'd cause more issues.  I also heard about changing App Readiness from Automatic to Manual, yet it's already in manual mode. The only way that I can access a browser currently is by opening up Task Manager, running a new program and typing in chrome.exe to open this up. However, both my home screen and taskbar aren't showing up. I've also let the laptop stay on the black screen after logging in for around 20 minutes which did absolutely nothing.
After the update, I also encountered an issue to where I couldn't click anything on the taskbar besides my pinned programs (chrome, explorer, etc.) and Cortana. I could not click on the windows home button or any of the ones on the very right side from the default taskbar. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I just don't want to do a system restore or alter any files of any sort. Thank you!

I can't hide the windows 10 taskbar in my laptop and this prevents me to do some tasks in some programs. What can I do?
