Hi @Gerard D Gilles - That's really a great question. Microsoft made changes to Windows 10 around Guest accounts. The easiest way is to just create a local account for your visitors to use. The account will not be able to access files in other user profiles. For 99% of cases, it should solve the requirement just fine. I just created a quick how-to here for you: http://windows10forum.com/blogs/entry/8-how-to-create-a-local-windows-10-account-or-guest-account/ To turn it into a Guest account, just remove it from the Users group and add it to the Guests group. Welcome to the forum! The first post is always the hardest!

With Windows 10, Creating an account is fairly simple. All the defaults aim to have you create a standard account using a Microsoft email address (hotmail.com, outlook.com etc..) or a Family account. Although it's not the most intuitive, you can also create a local account if you know where to look. Personally, I like to use local accounts for Guest's who visit my home. Here's how to do it. 1 - Click Setting > Accounts > Family & Other Users > Add Someone Else to this PC 2 - Click I don't have this person's sign-in information 3 - Click Add a user without a Microsoft account Note: Microsoft hides this option... See shot below. 4 - Enter Username and Password (PW is optional) Done Advanced: If you want to take an extra step and make the account a true Guest Account, Remove the account from the Users Group and Add it to the Guest Group.

Steve K. replied to holdum333's topic in General Windows 10 Support
Not smart... @holdum333 have you tried all 3 methods @adacosta provided? http://www.groovypost.com/howto/3-ways-to-upgrade-to-windows-10-anniversary-update/ -
FYI - 48 hour Giveaway event if you want to grab a copy of EaseUS Partition Master Pro. http://www.groovypost.com/unplugged/giveaway-easeus-partition-master-pro/ Enjoy! -S

I have an old ASUS Chromebook and it's a great little box. It is my living surfing box. We do most of our Amazon and Amazon Fresh buying on it (and I'm using it right now...).

Hi Everyone, Just a quick FYI - I just added a new feature to the site which will show "Related Topics" when creating a new post. The purpose of the new feature is to limit creating the same question if it's already been answered. Hope this you enjoy it! Thanks, -Steve

Honestly.... I can't think of a time I check mine. Perhaps if you want to confirm that a hotfix or update was applied. But yes. Good point.

Hey Shocker. Yes - I moved the Blogs navigation to be more visible. @holdum333 noticed it early on while we were still testing the feature. For now just two of us are blogging but I'll be posting more details shortly on the plan to expand it. Great question, thanks for asking! Another great question. The plan is to merge together http://answers.groovypost.com and http://forum.groovypost.com into a new forum running a modern, commercial forum package. I'm still working out the details because it's going to take time to convert all the data from the old databases into a new database and NOT lose any data (Topics, Comments, User, Reputation). It's not easy but bear with us! Lot's of cool stuff to come. -S

Heya @holdum333 - FYI, I nuked that link you posted. It's a great tip however, that's for clearing the update history "list". It doesn't have anything to do with fixing updates applied multiple times. It will just remove what's been installed so far. Ya know what - the DEVs at Microsoft are not perfect. They are going to have bugs, that's just a fact. Personally, I wouldn't mess with it. Might just make it worse.
-
Hi @gus - Welcome to the forum! Does it continue to prompt you to reinstall that update or is it just something you noticed? If you just noticed it in the installed programs list, I would suggest you just ignore it and move on. Probably isn't hurting anything. -S

windows 10 downloaded, but not installed
Steve K. replied to drw's topic in Install, Upgrade and Config
Well, Windows 10 wasn't fully baked when released but it continues to get better and better with each release. I like to think of it as a nice upgrade to Windows 8.1. Honestly, however, if someone wants to stay on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, sure. If your apps work, fantastic. After all, I always say it's all about the Apps not the OS. -

Jack just did a really nice write-up on the Asus Chromebook Flip - http://www.groovypost.com/reviews/asus-chromebook-flip-laptop/. Great read if you're in the market for one... I wasn't before reading the review... it will be here on Friday.

Funny thing - For Prime day, I only bought a few shirts. No tech.

Are you in your house? Work? How far away from your WIFI Switch?

HI @cidi, I've never had this happen to me, however, if for some reason you remove all users from the Local Administrators group on a PC, I'm going to guess there is nothing you can do to fix the problem. I would have hoped that Windows would tell you (I'm, that's the last Admin account, you really don't want to do this) but perhaps not. Never tried it. So that's the real issue here. If there's no local admin, there's no way to promote an account into that group. Perhaps You will need to do a Refresh and see if that resets the Local Admin group. Start with the Refresh (If you have permissions to do so) http://www.groovypost.com/howto/perform-a-clean-install-of-windows-10-using-the-refresh-tool/ If the refresh won't work, you will need to do a full Reset. That's covered in that article as well.

Get a free PC if MS can't upgrade you to W10
Steve K. replied to holdum333's topic in Windows 10 News
Yup - As mentioned in the article, however, you need to read the fine print. Looks like it's also US & Canada only (for now). And you need to show-up at a reasonable hour vs. 10 minutes before End of day. Here's the "Fine Print" -
Thnx @Rich-M!

Never heard of this before Michel. Very funky. What happens if you move the toolbar to another spot on the desktop? Perhaps the LEFT or RIGHT side? Does it still not auto-hide after a few mins?
-
Aye - living a few miles away from Microsoft does have its benefits for sure. I honestly don't need all this speed either however with a bunch of kids all using devices to stream Netflix.... it's nice to have when I need to get something done at the office or the blog! -S

Should You Turn Off Your Computer Every Night?
Steve K. replied to holdum333's topic in The Lounge....
Leo is fantastic! Glad to see you read his content! Personally, I agree with Leo. On my Laptops, when I'm done using them, I close the lid and let them goto sleep. For my desktop however in my office (where I do most of my heavy-duty work), I never put the computer to sleep and let it run 24x7. I do this for several reasons. Sometimes when I'm at work, I need to connect to my home box. I use Teamviewer to do this and it works great. I upload A LOT of photos and videos to my computer. A lot of times when I do this, it can take a few days for all the content to backup to Crashplan. So -- by leaving the computer turned on, everything gets backed up fully no issues. Even while in the house, I at times need to connect to my Windows box from my MB Air. Because of this, I need to the box turned on or I'll need to stand up, walk into my office and turn on my PC. Yeah, I know, lazy but.... oh well. I live in Seattle, power is cheap........ Just my 2 cents in adding to the discussion @holdum333. Great question. -

Best Replacement for Google Picasa App on Windows or Mac?
Steve K. replied to ShockerSH's topic in Software and Apps
Smugmug (Not free), Flickr, Photos (Mac), Lightroom (Not Free). Personally, I'm also still using Picasa + Smugmug. Picasa on my PC indexes and tags all my photos then I upload them all the Smugmug. It's a great combo. Now that Picasa is toast, i'll probably move everything to Photos on the Mac.
