holdum333 replied to James George's topic in General Windows 10 Support
Hi! I didn't miss any Windows updates. I run W10 Home and Windows updates are automatic checked and updated every day! Here's link by HTG that explains W10 updates and your options, which there aren't very many! http://www.howtogeek.com/223068/what-you-need-to-know-about-windows-update-on-windows-10/ PS I have the Anniversary flash and that's what I'll probably use when I decide to Upgrade to the Anniversary addition! -

Not able to open files after windows 10 upgrade
holdum333 replied to buffy2011's topic in Install, Upgrade and Config
Heya @Steve K. good question. They could be pdf files. In that case the poster would need Adobe or Foxit Reader. I prefer Foxit because Adobe has become a magnet for malware. If you use Adobe, you need to keep it updated. https://www.foxitsoftware.com/products/pdf-reader/ -
Not able to open files after windows 10 upgrade
holdum333 replied to buffy2011's topic in Install, Upgrade and Config
Hi @buffy2011 Here's a good read for you. Please update us if you're still having problems and other members will try to help you. When you have no clue what kind of file you’re dealing with or what software will run it and if Windows doesn’t know how to open it, try opening it with the native Windows tools Notepad or WordPad. -
Not able to open files after windows 10 upgrade

Hi @buffy2011 Welcome to the forum! Have you tried to open the files with word or note pad? You may get more replies from other forum members latter! -
Heya @bassfisher6522 Welcome to the forum. I hear what you're saying. The first thing I do when I log on to the forum is click on "Online Users" Then my next click is "activity" It's not the same as "new posts" but it works similar. It shows all the posts that are made daily and hourly. I rarely ever click on "unread tab" Once you read the post , they go from dark to light so you can see that you read them before! I'm sure @Steve K. will read your suggestion and respond! PS I have seen you post on other help forums and I'm sure you will be a big asset here. Welcome to the forum!

Here's How to Upgrade Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile
holdum333 replied to Brian Burgess's topic in Windows Phone
Hi @srinivasan You may get more replies from other forum members latter. I don't think your Celkon 400 is eligible for the W10 update! You can read about it in the link below! If you got the message "not available" there's a good chance your phone is not eligible for the upgrade! Welcome to the forum!! Here's a good link to check by @Brian Burgess https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-mobile-upgrade http://www.alphr.com/microsoft/1001418/windows-phone-owners-won-t-be-happy-with-this-news-about-windows-10-mobile -
My question is why is the built in account popping up! I thought that was a trouble shooting option. IMHO the poster has had a lot of help. I agree with @Steve K. that you are trying to do something that MS doesn't want you to do. Nice Steve!

When should you flash the BIOS??
holdum333 replied to holdum333's topic in General Windows 10 Support
Thanks for your reply @Steve K. You're above my pay grade friend. I have never been there before, but I'm sure Cindy and others can follow you, and may or may not comment. I have only flashed the BIOS one time on a old HP lap top that was given to me by a senior; and it worked. It would BSOD all the time and that was my last resort. Gave it to my daughter and she still has it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm sure I'm be hide the times and need to do some more reading on the subject! I came here to learn new things and I'm doing that all the time. -

Hi @Steve K. @allheart55 (Cindy E) is a builder. So is @Rich-M and so is @Profiler They have been custom building for many years I'm the only non hardware Geek here without a custom build. Just my old Toshiba laptop! Did that answer your question? -

Hi @Rajesh Ramtere We all are volunteers here and all in different time zones. I'm sure you will get more replies from forum members latter. I'm not sure what your issue is?? You're wanting a better solution to "security measure" ? Are you running the new anniversary addition of W10? Do you have Access Control set to lowest level? I fail to see how we can come up with a better solution here on the forum. Maybe you should contact MS and see what they have to say!! Which setting is inhibiting the MS programs?? I'm sorry if I don't understand what you're asking!

How to retrieve win 8 product key for activation
holdum333 replied to babylis's topic in Install, Upgrade and Config
Hi! @babylis I don't know way your not getting a reply! Here's a link and a reply by @adacosta . I hope this helps! You may get more answers from other forum members latter!I hesitated to answer your post and was waiting for a W8 user to answer! Maybe no one is answering because this is W10 help forum?? http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_install/how-can-i-find-my-windows-8-product-key-if-it-came/a2dbcf1f-97b2-48a7-be57-56d1401c4e25?auth=1 With Windows 8, Microsoft has changed from stickers that have the product key that the user has to type in when installing the operating system to new BIOS embedded product keys. The idea is that by eliminating the sticker, you eliminate one of the easier ways for nefarious users to get a legitimate product key. Eliminating the product key sticker also removes any worry that the sticker might get damaged while at the same time eliminating the long and irritating process of typing in various letters and numbers when installing the operating system. If the user has to reinstall the operating system on a machine that came with Windows 8, the installation process automatically grabs the software product key from the motherboard BIOS with no input from the user. This means that those familiar Windows product key stickers will no longer appear on the Windows 8 computers.
