  1. Heya @Geoff Olding - thanks for posting the fix on this! Good info.
  2. Read through this article and see if you can get things going again: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/fix-black-screen-windows-10/
  3. Hi, Unlike Dropbox, Onedrive cannot detect other systems on your local LAN and then sync more quickly vs. pulling down from OneDrive servers. So, to make things go faster, you could copy the files over manually before turning on OneDrive then select that folder where you copied your data. When you enable Onedrive, it will then see the files are already there and only sync the delta's. From there, you can blow away your old system and you're good-to-go.
  4. Hi - A drive defrag will not fix a slow PC issue normally. That said, you can find the Defrag / Drive Optimization in Windows 10 by: Open File Explorer > Right Click the Drive > Click Properties > Click Tools Tab. You will see the button on Optimize your drive there. Now - regarding your slow PC issue - how is it slow? Might be something else going on.
  5. Is that a BIOS error you are getting or from Windows? Where did you get the batter? Correct one?
  6. Best bet @hippie is to use 7 Zip. It will be able to open pretty much any compressed file.
  7. So I assume you're logging in with a Microsoft account? Are you changing your Password from the Home > Accounts > Sign-in Options? There is a change PW option there which I would use.
  8. Follow these steps. We've written about this in the past: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/boot-windows-10-safe-mode/
  9. What are you seeing in Disk Manager? Are the drives/partitions showing up?
  10. Give this a shot: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/fix-black-screen-windows-10/ Lots of tips and ideas should help ya out. Thanks!
  11. It would help if you could post a screenshot from Disk Manager to see which Drives / Partitions are installed in the machine. Could be, it wasn't a 3TB drive but something smaller. If you're not seeing it in Disk Manager... might not be there.
  12. Is this on a laptop or a desktop?
  13. Take a look at this article - https://www.groovypost.com/howto/reset-windows-10-store-to-fix-apps-not-updating-and-other-issues/ It's a nice step-by-step for fixing apps and other issues w/Microsoft Store.
  14. Yes - You should be able to restore that image into a Hyper-V Windows 7 guest. It all depends on how you created the "Image" of Windows 7.
  15. Looks like that computer is about 10 years old. If it was me, I would first try to get Windows 10 on it. First, I would try to upgrade the HD to an SSD drive then throw Windows 10 on.
  16. Sorry - never ran into any issues with software after an install/upgrade. Do you still have the install media for CS5? I'd try a re-install.
  17. Hi Magggie, Do you have the software or are you looking for a 16-bit version? If you have a copy of Scrabble 16-bit already, take a look at this article to try and get it to run. https://www.groovypost.com/howto/enable-16-bit-application-support-windows-10/
  18. How exactly did you transfer it? Did you copy the folder the old box to the new one via USB or something? Unfortunately, this normally won't work. Especially with complex apps. When you install software, normally the software will copy needed files around the OS including updating your registry files to set the configuration of the app. Which Tax software is it? Do you have the original installation disk or cd/dvd it came with? That will likely be your best option.
  19. My suggestion is to reach out to Microsoft. Here's an article we published on the blog which outlines the procedure. https://www.groovypost.com/howto/activate-windows-10-license-microsoft-support/ Thanks @MightyMic
  20. Do the re-install but then reach out to Microsoft to re-activate it. https://www.groovypost.com/howto/activate-windows-10-license-microsoft-support/
  21. Yeah - I personally still use it as well. Just in case the installs vanish, I also grabbed the final versions for Windows and Mac. Find em here on the blog. https://www.groovypost.com/howto/howto/batch-resize-photos-with-google-picasa/
  22. Hi Rod, Unless you have a Bitlocker recovery key saved, you don't have many options. You will need to create a USB Boot Drive w/Windows 10 on it and rebuild your system.
  23. When you boot your computer @CAL5, what happens? Do you get a post of any kind? Or, when you reboot, does it just sit at a blank screen with a flashing cursor?
  24. Hi @Andrew - For my install of Excel 2016, I add images by going to Insert > Pictures. See below. Any reason you just don't use this feature?
