Devices and Printers Menu takes forever to load
ACE replied to holdum333's topic in General Windows 10 Support
I am thinking the same,Gus. Why M$ thought they could do a better job of installing Drivers than us amazes me. They should have stayed the hell away from Drivers. Mick. -

Looks like Microsoft updates keep knocking your good Driver from HP out. It has happened to me before with a Graphics Driver. -
Devices and Printers Menu takes forever to load
ACE replied to holdum333's topic in General Windows 10 Support
Has Windows 10 removed your good driver and installed a generic driver. Check your latest installed updates for a printer driver update since you installed the good driver.. -
Use what works for you. Macrium is good and reliable. I have had Macrium for some years. I like testing new software. I am road testing "Casper" at the moment. Very impressed so far. I do have a backup of my OS done with Macrium on an external Hard Drive. As soon as I make a backup I disconnect the external from the PC because if you are attacked with Ransomeware then your external becomes infected also if connected. I hook the external up only when I wish to transfer Data or a backup. Mick.

How many backup's do you have of your OS? Mick.

It is normal to have to log in fresh after a name change. Mick.

Devices and Printers Menu takes forever to load
ACE replied to holdum333's topic in General Windows 10 Support
The topic title says "Devices and Printers" not Windows slow to load Rich-M. LOL -
That's regrettable this happened. I have has customers with the exact same issue. Normally hard shut off. Booting into Bios, reset boot order and set Bios to defaults. This normally gets you booting into the OS again. In this day and age backups are most important with all the ransome ware about.

In that Log it says WARNING! /C parameter specified.Your drive may still be corrupt even after running CHKDSK. That's why using the "r" and "f" Flags are so important. /c Flag does nothing. -

Use the "r" and "f" Flags. Always run CHKDSK from Command Prompt. If you can't paste the script in Command Prompt like normal, Right Click on the box and choose Paste. -

You can do a net search to see the differences between the two. Handy Hint. Instead of searching for your CHKDSK Log, use Power Shell and it puts the log report straight on your Desktop. In your Search box Type Powershell.exe and press Enter. In the command prompt Admin box that shows copy and paste this. get-winevent -FilterHashTable @{logname="Application"; id="1001"}| ?{$_.providername –match "wininit"} | fl timecreated, message | out-file Desktop\CHKDSKResults.txt -

Windows Explorer can stop for a number of reasons. I want to find out why? Ran CHKDSK /r /f Found an issue with the HDD looking at the Log. Said (repairing the Security File Record Segment) Will now wait to see if Windows Explorer crashes again. -

I experienced the same problem after Anniversary Update. Looked in Services and discovered both Bluetooth entries are set to manual. Started both Bluetooth entries then Right clicked on Properties and set both to Automatic. Now my Devices and Printers load pretty quickly. Mick. -

Try Aomei Backupper. So much easier to use and faster than Macrium Reflect. http://www.backup-utility.com/free-backup-software.html

Hi Rajesh. See if this helps you. http://www.cnet.com/au/how-to/always-run-a-program-in-administrator-mode-in-windows-10/ You may have set the registry back to default for this to work. Not sure.- 16 replies

I haven't a clue where you got Windows10 from or how you validated your copy. I also don't know what changes you have made to the Registry. I have installed Windows10 on a number of machines and not had this issue. As @holdum333 suggests, take this up with Microsoft. Sorry I can't help you more.- 16 replies

Hi @merrillmack I have an unconventional way of achieving what your trying to do. I right click on the Folder and select "Send To" I select "Desktop" first. Then right click on the Folder on the Desktop and choose "Pin for easy access" Works for me every time on any Folder. Just a way I have gotten used to.
