  1. Hi! @Michel I have tried the hide my task bar feature and I have not had any problems with it. It's working just fine on my old Toshiba laptop. I will keep trying this feature and see what happens. So far all is good! Welcome to the forum friend!
  2. Hi Julise ! You might give this link a look! Sometimes you may have an issue with Windows Update such as not being able to download or install updates, error messages, not being able to search for new updates, etc. These kind of issues can occur when the Windows Update database or components are corrupted, one or more services related to Windows Update are not running, etc. Resetting the Windows Update components and history can usually solve these types of issues. http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/24742-windows-update-reset-windows-10-a.html
  3. Hi ! I would be curious about how you up graded to W10. Did you use the Windows up date method,or did you use the Media Creation Tool. You could always try a in-place- repair- Upgrade. It will cure some of the funky things. You could try Steve's suggestion. If you have found a solution, we would like to hear about it!
  4. Hi there! Here's what Leo has to say! http://ask-leo.com/should_i_turn_my_computer_off_at_night.html
  5. Here's a good video "How to clean your laptop" https://youtu.be/u4sumDY5mhI
  6. Hi there! There are a lot of different opinions about this subject. I have a Toshiba laptop. It's on 7/24. I restart some times but seldom do I shut my PC off. I'm starting on the 5th year and for a lap top; that's pretty good. My laptop stays on my desk and I seldom take it any where. I'm about ready for a new PC after 5 years. I don't plan on changing my habits and it will be interesting to see how much longer my old Toshiba will last. I keep it well maintained and dust free. Do you have any thought about this? Would like to hear from you! Here's a good read about the pros and cons! http://blog.dyminsystems.com/blog/should-you-turn-off-your-computer-every-night
  7. Yea! Thanks for clicking on Windows10forum.com! You just made my day! Looking good. You all come back again!! You hear!
  8. Hey my new friend @SuperBob! I don't know if we're getting some where at last or not; but we're having fun being our selves talking about Cortana, and that's counts on these help forums IMHO I have been blessed financially and I count my blessing ever day.I hope I can pass forward things I have learned from forums like this one. That would make my day! I want to thank @Steve For allowing me to be apart of this great forum and allowing to be my old country boy self.
  9. Hi! I thought I better back up what I preach. I just restored my PC with a W10 back up image that I created. It took about 30minutes. Every thing seems to be exactly like it was when I created the image. I still prefer a 3rd party image program rather than the the windows image feature in W10, but it does seem to work and is better than no back up!
  10. Hi there! Where to you click when you visit the forum. I usually click on Activity first, to see if there has been any thing new sense my last visit. Then I click on Online Users to see who's on line and what they are looking at. What would you like to have @Steve add to the forum list?? If enough members want a new topic, he might add it. This is a great forum to learn about your PC. Ask questions, help members seeking solutions to issues they are having, or just chatting here in the lounge. You may have had a members problem before and found the solution. That would be great if you have answers to issues a member is having, and post your suggestions. Usually there is more than one solution to a problem. It would be nice if there was always just one solution to a problem, but that's not how the PC world is.LOL It's free, so join and be apart of a great community. I know you will be glad that you joined; even if you don't have any problems. See you on the forum!!
  11. Hi There! I can't create new posts in tips and tricks, so I'm posting this trick here. Please move if appropriate and found to be helpful or leave here! This is a zip file I created with the W10 PSR tool. This is how I find tutorials created by groovypost.com; my now favorite site for tutorials, and should be your favorite also! I just type what I want to know in Google and add groovypost. Here's zip file! I typed "How do I create a w10 recovery drive groovypost" Pretty cool! Hey @Steve Give this a look and see what you think about the way I find your tutorials! You have a better way, please post it here! I'm full of tips and tricks! I enjoy sharing them with members! You need to create a recovery drive for W10, so use this post to learn how to do it! Groovypost.zip
  12. Hi! If you don't want to learn how to create a image with a 3rd party program, at least take the time to learn how to create a image with this tutorial by our own @Brian I guarantee you there will be a day you will glad you did this! http://www.groovypost.com/howto/create-windows-10-system-image-backup/
  13. Hi there! I just wanted to add this and make it a little cleaner! IMHO the best choice is the system restore point. Then try the repair(Never had much luck with that) My next choice is repair install of windows 10. Then refresh and last choice is a reset. Your best offense is to create regular image back ups with a 3rd party image program on a external drive. There are several free programs out there. My favorite is Macrium Reflect!
  14. Hi there! The above are all good recovery options but here is my favorite when the repair and system restore point doesn't help! If you're having problems with Windows 10 on your PC, you could use push-button reset to refresh or reset Windows. Refresh your PC Fixes software problems by reinstalling the OS while preserving the user data, user accounts, and important settings. All other preinstalled customizations are restored to their factory state. In Windows 10, this feature no longer preserves user-acquired Windows apps. Reset your PC prepares the PC for recycling or for transfer of ownership by reinstalling the OS, removing all user accounts and contents (e.g. data, Classic Windows applications, and Universal Windows apps), and restoring preinstalled customizations to their factory state. The options above are great for what they are intended for, but you could also do a repair install of Windows 10 by performing an in-place upgrade without losing anything other than all installed Windows Updates. This tutorial will show you how to do a repair install of Windows 10 by performing an in-place upgrade without losing anything. http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to do a repair install of Windows 10.
  15. If you're having problems with your PC, the following table can help you decide which recovery option to use. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options Problem See this section Your PC isn't working well and you recently installed an app, driver, or update. Restore from a system restore point Your PC isn’t working well and it’s been a while since you installed an app, driver, or update. Reset your PC Your PC won't start and you've created a recovery drive. Use a recovery drive to restore or reset your PC Your PC won't start and you haven't created a recovery drive. Use installation media to restore or reset your PC Your PC won't start, you haven't created a recovery drive, and resetting your PC didn't work. Use installation media to reinstall Windows 10 You want to reinstall your previous operating system. Go back to your previous version of Windows
  16. Hey Bob! I have noticed that after I have used the Windows logo+C; Cortana works with "Hey Cortana" for awhile. Give it a shot and see if that's true for you. That's much faster then teaching her again. LMAO!
  17. Hi there! Old thread, but hears a new freeware from MBAM that will help you take out the guessing of which programs to disable on start up! It worked well for me! By disabling or removing unnecessary entries, StartUpLITE can dramatically shorten your startup time with just a few clicks of the mouse. Stop waiting and start computing. https://www.malwarebytes.com/startuplite/
  18. I can understand that! I have the same problem. I've been married 56 years. Maybe the new anniversary up date will help! I'm thinking that our mics may not be up to Cortana's standards. I just have a cheap Toshiba laptop with realtek speakers and mic! I undated the driver, but that didn't help. You can hold down the windows logo key+C and Cortana with come on and you can ask her questions that way or just click on the mike like you have been doing! Thanks for your post!
  19. Hi You might want to try the windows 10 trouble shooter first!
  20. Hi there! I don't seem to be able to add new threads to tip and tricks that I've learned, so will post here. If your having trouble with W10 up dates, there could be several reasons for that! I hope this helps. If it helps you I would like to hear from you! This tutorial will show how you how to reset and reregister Windows Update components and history in Windows 10. http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/24742-windows-update-reset-windows-10-a.html You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to reset Windows Update. PS MY thanks to Shawn Brink!
  21. OK Now I see why you have those speeds ! You have fiber. I retired from ATT and know a little about fiber optics. However I retired nearly 23 years ago. It will be awhile before fiber gets to me. I'm really not that into any thing that needs that speed, but it must be nice and would spoil you! I wouldn't know how to act with 5ms Ping! I gripe to Sudden Link, but they don't listen. I think I pay some where around 40$. Golden Oaks pays my TV and ATT takes care of my phone. I think I could get better speed, but I don't stream or do things like that. A simple man with a simple plan. LOL
  22. Hey new friend! Give this a try. Probably won't work either. LOL I don't give up very easy! https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/7f6b4dd4-5e9a-4b6b-8cd8-f1a6c5910200/cortana-can-t-hear-me
  23. Hey Bob! I'm liking W10 really well. Don't know what all the anniversary up date contains. Here's a few things! Not sure what you mean about viewing your photos in the order that you want! Here's a groovypost by @Steve about Cortana. http://www.groovypost.com/howto/use-inking-with-sticky-notes-and-cortana-in-windows-10-anniversary-update/ https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/upcoming-features
