Add Modern App Shortcuts to Desktop Windows 10

Recommended Posts

Windows 10 (Technical Preview) has a feature that allows you to create shortcuts for Modern apps on the desktop.

In Windows 8.1 update 1 you could pin Modern apps to the Taskbar, but not add them to the desktop.

Just open the Start menu, click and drag the app you want to make a shortcut for to the desktop. It's easy -- just like making shortcuts in previous versions of Windows. Hopefully this feature will make the cut when it comes to the final version.

It appears this capability was lost with build 9926, and the Customize button for the Start Menu is greyed out, hopefully the next build will bring it back . . .

Interesting, I'll see if there's a work-around for it or something. Features being added and pulled during the technical preview phase.
