Can't type in search box of File Explorer

I am on Windows 10, of course. I've been using File Explorer and its predecessor for decades. Tonight, I hit a problem I have never seen before. I am looking for a file in Downloads. However, I can't type anything into the search box. I have rebooted m computer twice. I've never had this problem before. I really need that file. Suggestions? Thanks.

Restart Windows Explorer.
End Windows Search and Cortana Processes.
Restart the Windows Search Service.
Restart Your Computer.
Run Search and Indexing Troubleshooter.
Run the CTF Loader.
Always Run CTF Loader at Startup.
Rebuild the Indexing Services in Windows.

Regards,
Jimmy
