  1. Hi There! I some times get a little bored and I get carried away here on the forum. Tonight I was bored and thought I would give my old PC a good summer cleaning. Yes I created a back up image before making these changes. I'm always preaching "Back up Your OS before doing any major changes" So I practice what I preach. I started out with 47GB+ used space. After cleaning up, I now have 33GB of used space. I have a 500GB hard drive, so I wasn't hurting for free space, but I like to keep my rig clean. I like to store every thing of value on a external HD and just want the windows OS on my Operating (C drive). Now after all that work, I will create a back up image with Macrium Reflect while my rig is all cleaned up. I try very hard to create new topics on this forum; hoping they are helpful and interesting, and I'm always hoping for comments from members. I get one every once in awhile. I could gain some more free space, but I'm happy with what I have now. I'm always eager to hear your comments on my threads. I could get rid of Apps and games, but not this time. I will post here again if I find out I cleaned up too much and have to use my Macrium back up image! Happy computing friends and guests!
  2. Hi! Here's a update on this issue. I reinstalled my HP printer and updated the latest driver. Then I made it my default printer. This is the second day that it has opened like it should. I really believe the issue has been solved; but if it re- accrues, I will report back here!
  3. Heya @Rich-M Thanks for your post my friend. Where's our leaders? Was this a big secret? I guess I blew their cover! Some times this is a very strange forum, but I love it anyway. My trouble logging in was my email address! Hope others aren't having problems logging in! If they do, I hope they report their problem and try more then once to log in!
  4. Hi There! I see we have a new forum name as promised by @Steve K. (Windows10.help). That's cool! I had to sign in this afternoon. It took me a couple of tries. First time said my email was in use, but next time I was successful. The forum seems to be growing and this new name may help. I'm excited. Am I the only member that noticed the new name?? I hope we can see a members list soon. Looking good. It appears you can get on with the old name also, but may have to sign in. Old name-- Forums - Windows 10 Forum New name-- Windows 10 Forums
  5. Here's Jpeg file converted to a PDF file. Who's say you can't teach a old dog new tricks! I think I did it right! 41kb difference! Can you open my PDF file I created with MS Print to PDF; with Adobe or Internet Explorer? Yes I learned some thing new today. Thank you! @gus You are appreciated my friend and a asset to the forum! So you already knew how to do this. Well I didn't, but I do now. I just need to remember how I did this. This is my thread that I created here, so surely I can have a little fun with it and not get hollered at for being a little off topic! LOL! old car.pdf
  6. Heya @gus Thanks for your post my friend. I had Foxit one time. Don't remember why I stopped using it. It's starting to sink in this old country boy's head and I'm going to do some more playing around with it. I think you are saying this would be a good way to send a document to a friend! Some of things I'm still learning from users like yourself. Some things I once knew but have just plain forgotten! I just created the PDF with the MS printer. It went to my documents. From there I was able to open it with internet Explorer. Am I getting close to understanding this my friend? May I ask why so many things are grayed out in your screen shot! Maybe another member, or quest will learn all this along with me! Thanks gus!
  7. I just used HP link above to install the latest driver and It is now opening just fine. Computers were made to keep us all upset and talking to ourselves. I have updated the driver before and nothing. This time it seems to be working like it's supposed to. So I'm a happy camper for now. We'll see how long that lasts!
  8. Hi! I have disabled both Bluetooth entries in services. I have uninstalled my HP printer and reinstalled it twice. Some times it opens just fine, but most of the time it takes 3+ minutes to open. I have to set and watch the bar crawl across the top. Not a big deal. It's just aggravating. I'm sure MS will fix this problem soon. I have seen several users complaining about this problem. The printer scans and prints just fine. Here's a handy tool I use all the time to get my HP printer up and going! It works great and I have used it on my printer and a couple of seniors printers! http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02073861?jumpid=ex_r4155/hho/ipg/ccdoc/trailhead_doc
  9. Thanks @ACE Never thought about booting into BIOS. That probably would have worked. Yes backups are very important! Thanks for your reply. I'll try to remember the BIOS trick next time I have that problem! Good old MCT and Macrium got me back up!
  10. Hi @Rich-M Windows boots just fine. The only problem I'm having is what the thread is saying! Devices and printers take forever to load after the anniversary update. I'm thinking it's a MS bug and it will be patched soon! Every thing else is working just fine at the moment. My boot order is just fine and the only thing I have on start-up is Windows Defender and MBAM. I'm a simple man with a simple plan. I only have 1 drive and 1 OS!
  11. Hi @ACE Yes I ended up with just the windows logo. PC would not refresh or reset. The only way I could get back was with the MCT flash and Macrium Reflect. Well at least I know they both work now! That's sad that it crashed my PC and would not boot into windows. I find that very strange and disturbing! All who read this thread, beware of this problem. Always have the MCT flash and a back up image of your OS!
  12. Hi ! I just had a major problem and was not able to boot into Windows . Here's what I had to do. I had to use the MCT flash and then use Macrium Reflect to get me back up and running with all my Apps. My PC is running just like nothing ever happened. It's running just fine. I'm felling good. Life is good! I wish everyone could learn to do these things. I'm blessed to have learned these things from help forums like this one. I will continue to preach, "Make a back up image of your OS" It ain't that hard to do! Good night sports fan!
  13. Hi! OK I clicked on a picture and it made it a PDF and sent it to my documents. I'm a little slow some times. What good did that do?? In other words! What good is this feature!! Why does MS call it a printer?? Thanks!
  14. Hi! The problem is back and I have Bluetooth disabled?? Go figure! Takes forever to open!! Worked good for awhile. I had to restore my PC back with Macrium. After trying the chkdsk /r /f. My PC bricked! Have no clue why. All is back up and running. Thanks to MCT flash and Macrium Reflect, I'm back up and going strong! Hard to keep me down!
  15. Hi @gus Thanks friend! I'll give your links a look. I never ram Vista. Was running W7! I skipped Vista! I'm always trying to learn new things! This is the first time I noticed them!
  16. Hi Here's a blog by @Brian Burgess that I found, explaining this much better then I did. Nice blog Brian! http://www.groovypost.com/howto/save-gbs-of-space-after-windows-10-anniversary-update/
  17. Hi @IndyImpalaSS Thanks for your post my friend. I'm always preaching backup and once in awhile, someone even listens. Good to have a technician on the forum. I just restored my OS with Macrium Reflect after my OS got corrupted. You won't believe this but I ran a chkdsk /r /f and it bricked my computer. I had to use my W10 MCT flash and then Macrium to get me back up and going. All is well and I'm glad it worked. If not for Macrium, I would still be installing Apps. Hope to see you around the forum! It's still growing!
  18. Hi there! Here's a tip I learned while using W10 anniversary (Still learning new things). As the title says find out what's taking up space on your drive. Click on All Settings Click on System Click on Storage. Choose a drive to see what's taking up space . (At the top) Delete files you don't want! That's it. You might be able to get back some serious free space! PS Always create a back up image before you get to carried away.
  19. Hi there here's some good tips from my friend Malwarebytes. I would never go on the internet without it! How to play-pokemon safely on-line and more good stuff IMHO! Always ready to receive your comments on my threads. Lets keep the forum interesting! I'm not a blog creator, but MBAM is! https://blog.malwarebytes.com/101/2016/07/five-ways-to-stay-safe-online-while-playing-pokemon-go/?utm_source=double-opt- in&utm_medium=email-internal-b2c&utm_campaign=EM-August-2nd-2016newsletter&utm_content=playing-pokemon-go https://blog.malwarebytes.com/cybercrime/2016/08/parents-beware-of-this-sms-scam/?utm_source=double-opt- in&utm_medium=email-internal-b2c&utm_campaign=EM-August-2nd-2016newsletter&utm_content=parents-beware-of-this-sms-scam https://blog.malwarebytes.com/101/2016/08/college-cybersecurity-survival-guide/?utm_source=double-opt- in&utm_medium=email-internal-b2c&utm_campaign=EM-August-2nd-2016newsletter&utm_content=college-cybersecurity-survival-guide https://blog.malwarebytes.com/101/2016/08/10-easy-ways-to-prevent-malware-infection/?utm_source=double-opt- in&utm_medium=email-internal-b2c&utm_campaign=EM-August-2nd-2016newsletter&utm_content=prevent-malware-infection
  20. Hi there! I see guests clicking on this thread, so I thought I would answer this even though it is very old. Yes @cryominute You should create a back up image of your OS and everyone clicking on this thread should be creating a back up image of their OS. There are several good freeware imaging programs. I prefer Macrium Reflect. I have been using it for years and it has saved me many times. I just used it yesterday after my W10 OS got corrupted. I'm right back where I was when I created the image. Life is good! You will find some amusing answers from MS forum in the link below about this panther-directory. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/what-is-panther-directory/424ed2df-ce11-4967-8f59-42ab9d6c9757?auth=1 I am familiar with this information. Thank You. My question was about making the back up on USB. I am satisfied with Windows 10 and as mentioned have already deleted the Windows/Old folder. A backup would be Windows 10 only.
  21. Hi there! I'm wondering if we could get a blog on how to use the new w10 Printers. There are two new printers added to my W10 anniversary. They are Microsoft Print to PDF and Microsoft XPS Document Writer. A blog about these would be appreciated by this old country boy! If any member knows about them and how they work, please explain what they do! It says I have the Print to PDK installed?? Thanks!
  22. Sorry! Here's Information from Event Viewer! I think I'm good and I'm going to let it rest. Thanks for your help my friend. I learned some new things tonight! I didn't think it was necessary to run the /r /f unless you found some bad sectors. I'm do a little more research on that. Thanks! 23. Hi @ACE I ran chkdsk /c from Command Prompt (Admin) It found no errors, but I couldn't get the the log on my desktop! It opened up notepad, but there wasn't any thing on notepad! Is that because there weren't any errors? Thanks friend!
  24. Heya @ACE Is this some thing new? I don't remember seeing this when I was running W7?? I haven't ran a chkdsk in awhile! I didn't try running the chkdsk in the elevated command mode>
