Is it possible jump to any of these steps without jeopardizing the Win 10 installation?
Why would they jeopardize your installation? There is no risk in trying any of them.

@Orbits Thanks, updated.

Some users are reporting remote access software such as LogMeIn can block the upgrade when using the Upgrade Assistant. Make sure you uninstall it before attempt the upgrade.

I agree, retail upgrades have never been money makers for Microsoft. OEM preinstalled and Volume Upgrades is where the company makes real money on Windows. Then again, shareholders might be saying, you are leaving money on the table by not charging for it.

I thought the anniversary upgrade was automatic and would be done through windows updates?? I have to do all that to get the anniversary up grade??
It should be, but in case you encounter problems with the upgrade, these are some things you can do to ensure a smooth upgrade. Remember, after July 29th, 1.3 billion users will still be running a mix of Windows 7 or Windows 8.

I updated it with instructions how to change the user agent string so you can still access the ISO. I'm sure I had updated the article previously, but the instructions were not saved it seems.
