On Shutdown many times on the shutdown screen generic icons show?

Of course when I go back I can't tell what it is? Many times it will within a few seconds continue the shutdown process. Oddly sometimes it is very fast, other times I can see considerable hard disk light showing activity, and yet other times there is a significant lag before the hard drive light blinks? No, it isn't MS installing updates, at least there isn't a message not to turn off the PC and/or a % complete message showing.

Can't see anything in the Event Log that might indicate and error?

I'm assuming and older program that isn't honoring the Shutdown flag or one that is waiting for a timeout.

Not sure how to determine the cause though or what program (no name usually associated with it on the screen) is causing it?
