Will automated testing become obsolete?

Five years ago I heard a very senior executive say that software testing would become completely obsolete. At the time, I was transitioning into an automated testing position and thought he was eccentric. So I ignored him.

Now I hear that even automated testing will become obsolete. A friend of mine at another company said that all "software tester" roles, including automation software tester roles, have been completely converted to core developer roles. They now develop the product along with the old developers. As for manual testing/automation scripting: everyone does all of these tasks for each of their areas. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard about this transition.
