Laptop screen doesn't work after Windows boots

When HDMI is plugged in, my laptop screen goes blank, but only after Windows starts.  Before Windows boots, it is fine; i.e. the Acer logo shows fine.  If HDMI is not plugged into the laptop, the display works just fine, from startup through running Windows.  With HDMI plugged in, if the attached receiver and flat screen are turned on, everything works fine.  This is a nuisance, and I've tolerated it for long enough.  I don't want to be required to turn everything on every time I want to use my computer.

I'm using Windows 10 on an Acer Aspire laptop, with Intel HD Graphics 4000.  It reports that the driver is up-to-date.
