  1. Thanks Andre, this resolved my problem; I am commenting to offer my thanks and to advise others that they should allow several hours to complete section 4, the one that fixed my pc. I had been unable to download updates since I ran update kb4013214 (creators update) 19 May 2017; I have had 0x80248007 and 0x803c0103 errors and could not get past them: I found your blog by web search and read through the first 4 sections. I had already run 1 (Windows update troubleshooter); I had deferred 2 (Media creation tool) as a last resort: I had previously run DISM with no success so I decided t

  4. Thnx for the data. Great blog. If Microsoft was smart they would just continue to let users upgrade for free. After all, all the cash is going to be in getting people subscribed to office anyway. my 2 cents...

  5. I always recommend setting up a local account first, then attaching it to an MSA later. But my reason is pretty benign: I just want to have control over the local username and folder name in the \users directory.

  6. I updated it with instructions how to change the user agent string so you can still access the ISO. I'm sure I had updated the article previously, but the instructions were not saved it seems.

  12. Actually no Holdum333 because I hadn't read the thread yet. I went in under Pc Settings,Updates, and "learn more" which took me to a page explaining the Anniversary Update and on it is a link to the actual Download and it started and ran very smoothly. In the clean install nightmare I was referring to I did eventually disable Antivirus, check bios and reset bios and all the right things to do which made no difference at all.

  13. @Vadim Windows 10 by default denies local login for the GUEST account. You need to go into your GPEDIT and edit the local Group Policy on the box and allow the Guest account to login locally. That said, there is still what appears to be a BUG where the Windows Explorer will crash when the Gues account tries to login. I mentioned that above. Microsoft will likely fix this issue soon. So for now, just create a new user, Call it Visitor, Drop it into the GUEST group, and you should be golden. -S

  14. Hi @Steve K. - I'm trying to enable my Guest account on my Windows 10 box and although I've enabled it in User Manager, I still can't login with it..... Lame... What's wrong? Worked just fine on older OS's. Thnx for the article BTW - you answered a few questions I had. VV

  15. Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant direct download did not work for me... got an error code after the download. What did work for me was downloading the Media Creation Tool (MCT) to a flash drive. The MCT contains the latest Win 10 Version 1607 build 14393.10 Anniversary update. Took about 30 minutes to download. Then went to File Explorer, clicked on My PC showing all drives. Clicked on the USB drive opening the MCT . Clicked on the file "Setup.exe" and the update began installing. This took about one hour. Very pleased with the results...no problems. After all this, I cloned my HDD to my s

  16. I don't know about the rest of you but I find that a bit "demeaning" to make visitors use "Guest Account", though I am glad to see how to do that, but doesn't "Standard Account" really safeguard you enough anyway Steve?

  17. Some users are reporting remote access software such as LogMeIn can block the upgrade when using the Upgrade Assistant. Make sure you uninstall it before attempt the upgrade.

  18. Hi, thanks for your resourceful post! I tried 2 days ago to install the anniversary update through Windows Update and it went terribly wrong. See, my case is a bit complicated : My laptop (MSI GP60) is configured as a dual-boot system running Windows 10 and Fedora 24. I simply choose each time the OS I want to boot through the GRUB menu. After the windows update installation completed, I ended up with an endless boot loop. Fortunately the Fedora OS and GRUB menu where left intact. After a lot of research I managed to create a windows 10 bootable USB-stick under Fedora and rolled back to the p
