Download Windows 10 Feature Update ISO Files Directly Using Your Web Browser

Update: Microsoft is forcing users to download the ISO file using the Media Creation Tool. If you still want to download the ISO file directly, you can do so by changing the User Agent String in your web browser. This will make the browser pretend its on an operating system such as Linux or macOS, which Microsoft permits direct downloads from.

If you need to download Windows 10 on an alternative operating system such as OS X (MacOS) or Linux; the Media Creation Tool or Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant will not work because those applications are executables. Previously, Microsoft provided the Techbench website for such as scenarios. The web page has now been redirected to the Software Download page. So if you are looking for it, that's where you will now find it.

Go to: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO/

Scroll down, click in the list box and choose your edition. Make sure you choose the right version. Click Confirm then wait while the page is verified.

Windows 10 - contains Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Home
Windows 10 N - only for customers in Europe, contains Windows 10 Pro N and Windows 10 Home N
Windows 10 Single Language - for users running Windows 10 Single Language, Windows 8 Core Single Language, Windows 8.1 Core Single Language or Windows 8.1 with Bing.

Choose your language then click Confirm. Wait while the page is verified.

Choose the architecture you wish to download. Remember, you only have 24 hours to download the ISO before it expires. When you are done, use your favorite DVD burning utility or mount it in a Virtual Machine.

Heya @adacosta Thanks! I down loaded the Anniversary Update and have it on a PNY flash. I'm going to wait awhile before I update the anniversary addition!;) You are much appreciated my friend! Keep up the excellent work! I read all your blogs!

Dear Andre,

Thank you very much for this post about how to download the Windows 10 ISO files.   I was looking for the means to do this, in March-April 2017, when I was assembling a new computer for someone, to replace an older computer whose internal hard drive had failed.

I find it somewhat amusing that Microsoft have, seemingly, made it quite difficult to directly download these ISO files for computers running Windows 7,8 or 10, yet one can do it running an alternate operating system, such as Linux, or Mac OS X. :)

Thank you for this helpful information, and for all your other useful guidance you provide via the various Microsoft user forums.

KInd regards,
Peter Selig

If you're using windows 7, 8, or 10 to view the page, it will redirect you to the media creation tool page now.

To get around this, grab the addon "Masking Agent" for Firefox, or other similar addons to hide your user agent.

Now you can go to the url linked at the top of the page.

Thanks for the tip. I used Random Agent Spoofer in Firefox to pretend I was using Firefox for linux, and the link at the top of the page took me to the iso download page just as you said.

This guide seems outdated.

Time for an update?

I updated it with instructions how to change the user agent string so you can still access the ISO. I'm sure I had updated the article previously, but the instructions were not saved it seems.

So Microsoft takes away the ability to download the Creator update 1709 Fall 2017. You try to change the agent string in the browser and no dice. I get errors when updating from 1511 to 1709. Windows update does not work in upgrading 1607 and I am trying to find the ISO but good old Microsoft does not offer it. Tell me Microsoft how can you be in the OS business since 1980 and not be able to make an easy update from your newest OS Windows 10 to another version?  This is why other companies should get into the OS business because by the time they get a decent foot in the market you will still be stumbling just throwing out updates. Honestly I wish my company would go to another OS because I spent more time fixing what should be easy. Advice Microsoft, listen to your users because you don't and that will get you someday.
